The Buffalo Ornithological Society coordinates the Hamburg Hawk Watch, which runs from March 15 through May 15 each year. Volunteer counters man the site daily from about 10 AM until 3 PM, weather permitting - and guests of all abilities are always welcome to visit.

We encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity to learn more about raptor identification and to assist in spotting and counting the birds!

Directions

The hawk watch site is at Lakeside Cemetery in Hamburg, NY. Entrance is off Camp Road, and visitors are asked to park along the road edge with all four wheels on the pavement (NOT in the grass). On some days, depending on the flight, the count may be moved to the parking lot of the ball park on Rogers Rd across from the western-most end of the cemetery. Note that this area is not accessible from the Camp Rd. entrance.
