T-Mobile, the wireless brand synonymous with magenta, is going green. On Monday, the company committed to using
100 percent renewable electricity by 2021 and also joined
RE100, a global initiative of companies with a goal of fully utilizing renewable energy.
Other companies involved in RE100 include Ikea, Apple, and Facebook. T-Mobile is the first US wireless carrier to join RE100.
T-Mobile plans to achieve its goal through an existing wind farm in Oklahoma, and a new planned farm in Kansas. These two farms will provide around 60 percent of the power. For the rest, the company will "buy enough wind power annually to account for every unit of electricity the company consumes," according to a press release.
