This female-type Orchard Oriole was a nice find by VerHague at the Dunkirk Airport on the 8th. This species departs very early from the region and most should be points south by mid-month.

Our region had a nice push of migrants during the overnight on the 13th. Subsequently, Sue Barth came across this Yellow-bellied Flycatcher at Woodlawn Beach SP on the 14th.

A nice record for Orleans County was this Black Vulture photographed by Joel Strong on the 12th near the town of Carlton at the far NE corner of the BOS study area.

Andrea Heine photographed these Purple Martins at Oak Orchard WMA on the 14th. These individuals will be migrating very soon as most PUMAs have departed the region by mid-September.

Josh Ketry found this Olive-sided Flycatcher at Woodlawn Beach SP on the 18th. Several observers were able to catch up with this rare but regular migrant throughout the day, including Sue Barth, who took this photo.

During a heavy rain event in the south towns on the 18th, Kyle Brock found an amazing 7 Black Terns on Red House Lake, Allegany SP. These birds constitute one of only a handful of records for Cattaraugus County.

Ketry and Rybczynski reported up to 6 Baird’s Sandpipers using the short grass field at the Seaway Slip, Buffalo Outer Harbor on the early morning of the 30th. Overnight thunderstorms likely grounded these birds. Photo by Sue Barth.
