This male Wood Duck was a nice find by Matt Holquist on the 2nd at Three Sisters Islands, Niagara Falls. This species can be found during the winter months but only a very few attempt to overwinter.

This Trumpeter Swan, K93, is one of the breeding birds from Iroquois NWR. He hatched in 2013 in central Ontario and spends most winters near Thorold. Tim Culp photographed this individual on the 4th along the Welland Canal at Thorold, Ontario.

This brave House Wren seems to be attempting an overwinter at Times Beach Nature Preserve. Sue Barth, who originally found this bird back in December, photographed it looking well on the 4th.

We usually get one or two phoebes attempting to overwinter each year - and this brave bird was found in such at attempt by Bruce Robinson on the 13th at Beaver Island SP.

Many have been hoping for a repeat appearance by a Slaty-backed Gull at Goat Island in Niagara Falls. Rob Sielaff hit pay dirt on the 16th when he studied this large black-backed gull at Three Sisters Island. The open-wing shot here was the clincher!

On the 22nd, Kevin Rybczynski and Rick Thomas found an icy Purple Sandpiper at an unusually close vantage point off the shelf at Three Sisters Island in Niagara Falls. Sakura Sealcat captured a fabulous open-wing shot of this beauty!

A recurring Slaty-backed Gull was once again found by Ryan Griffiths on the 27th at the Welland Canal in St. Catharines. Ryan and this gull go back to 2017!
