This Neotropic Cormorant was a fantastic find by Kevin Rybczynski and Rebecca Ploeger at Hoyt Lake, Delaware Park on the 5th. Shelley Seidman took this photo on the same day. Note the smaller size, thinner bill, brown lores and chocolate brown neck and breast as compared to the Double-crested in the same image.

This White-rumped Sandpiper posed nicely for Old Bird on the 7th at Morgan’s Point, Pt Colborne, Ontario. Note the primaries that extend beyond the tail as well as the pale eyebrow flare and light streaking on the flanks.

This 1st winter Franklin’s Gull was a great find in Chautauqua County at the Celoron Boat Launch by Gary Bletsch on the 19th. Note the clean gray back, distinct partial hood, white eye crescents and clean white breast.

A very common migrant through our region, this Yellow-rumped Warbler was photographed by Sue Barth gleaning insects from the seed heads of goldenrod at the West Side Rowing Club on the 19th.

This juvenile Peregrine Falcon put on a display for Diana Werezak at Morgan’s Point, Port Colborne, Ontario on the 24th. Note the blond in the crown of this bird which is a trait of the tundrius subspecies.

Tom Riley found this Cattle Egret on the Lake Erie shore at Bennett Beach on the 23rd. This bird cooperated throughout the day affording a successful chase for many local birders. Steven Pitt captured this image on the same day.

It was a nice surprise to find 8 Red Crossbills in Concord on the 29th. This male was foraging on the berries of a thorn bush while others were picking at seeds from weeds growing along the creek.

One more photo of the Red Crossbills shows this probable immature crossbill - perhaps a hatch year bird from the breeders in Chautauqua or Cattaraugus County.
