Originally found on the 1st by Seth Winkleman, this adult Franklin’s Gull has continued on and off at the Olcott Pier into the 3rd, when Willie D’anna took this smashing photo! This species is quite rare in the spring locally.

Phil Mills located this hulking American White Pelican out on Strawberry Island on the 1st. Earlier in the day Alec Humann reported a group of 7 from Buckhorn Island SP. This is a species whose frequency of occurrence has increased in the past decade and some anticipate future local breeding attempts!

June 3rd provided sunshine and this alluring and continuing adult Franklin’s Gull at the Olcott Pier. We don’t often get to see this species in all of its springtime glory, including the pale pink breast. Photo taken by Willie D’anna.
