This American Woodcock was downed by fog in downtown Buffalo's inner harbor on the 8th.. i was fortunate to watch him dance and forage and fly around for a while until the fog lifted and he flew off !

This SWAINSON'S HAWK was picked out by the sharp eyes of Alec Humann at the Hamburg Hawkwatch on the 8th and Sue Barth obtained this documentary photograph. This is a first record for Erie County! Five days later, likely the same individual was seen/photographed at the Braddock Bay Hawkwatch.

Sue Barth was lucky enough to snap this photo of an American White Pelican as it flew by Times Beach on the 7th. This species subsequently put in appearances at Iroquois NWR, Braddock Bay SP, Hamlin Beach SP, Sodus Bay and Irondequoit Bay throughout the month. How many individuals were around?

Conan Guard submitted an eBird checklist from Tifft NP on the 13th that included a Long-eared Owl. Joshua Ketry followed up on the report later the same day and refound the bird, photographed it and alerted many local birders who enjoyed the bird from a respectable distance throughout the day!

On the 12th, Karl Schmidt reported Red Crossbills from Hanging Bog in Allegany County. John Gordinier took this photo on the 22nd. This species sporadically breeds in the Southerntier.
